Cuenca, is a beautiful colonial city declared an UNESCO cultural heritage site in 1999, enjoy colonial architecture and art in its churches, plazas and museums. Nearby is town of Chordeleg in the Gualaceo valley, famous for its artistic jewelry in gold and silver, Banos de Duran and its thermal baths. In the area you find the Inca ruins at Ingapirca and the Cajas lakes. South of Cuenca are Loja the eco-city, Podocarpus National Park and the Vilcabamba Valley.
Known as the 'Athens of Ecuador', Cuenca presents the visitant a beautiful Spanish-based architecture. Its downton, portrays the history of the Incas before and after being colonized.
