Ecuador travel Cotopaxi & Indigenous Markets

LTE-QDT007: Cotopaxi & Markets

South of Quito, you find colorful indigenous towns and markets, at which agricultural products and handicrafts are traded. Visit the Cotopaxi Volcano, the highest active volcano on earth (5.907 m / 19.400 feet), and its national park, home of more than 90 different species of birds.

Itinerary (Daytrip from Quito)

The market visited depends on the day of departure according to the following schedule: Sangolquí (Sun), Saquisilí (Thu), Pujilí (Sun/Wed), Latacunga (Tue/Sat).

All markets except Sangolquí are located in the Cotopaxi Province (Sangolquí is located in the southern parts of the Pichincha Province). Semi-private tours are offered on Thursdays.

Highlights

Cotopaxi National Park Enjoy the magnificent view of the world’s highest volcano surrounded by a lunar landscape full of lakes, Inca ruins, and giant boulders spewed from the volcano long ago. With some luck, you might spot a condor!

Indigenous Rural Markets Experience a completely authentic experience as you visit the markets where the indigenous population comes to trade and barter. These markets are more geared toward the inhabitants in the region than towards tourist and will give you insight to the daily life in the Andes.
