Decarbonization Project

The project divided its goals with three main objectives:

• It’s not news that carbon emissions are rising and this damages the environment almost permanently. To reduce this, every hotel centered on reducing its carbon footprint by implementing measurement and management programs. As a result, each hotel was expected to track emissions and identify reduction opportunities.
• The second objective revolved around finding ways in which hotels can have technical and economic analysis in order to evaluate the cost and benefits of sustainable initiatives. Overall, when presented with new opportunities, hotels can appreciate more sustainable alternatives that will still drive margins up.
• The final objective aimed to provide hotels with operational efficiency with tools that furthered sustainability. By providing hotels with instruments to optimize resources, the impact on the environment could reduce and strengthen Ecuador’s position as a sustainable destination.

The process involved hotel audits which consisted of deep analysis of the hotels infrastructure and operations to observe what can change. Adherence to ISO 14062 standards, this means integrating environmental objectives and decisions to product design and execution. Finally, it held an integration with the Ecuador Carbono 0 program, aimed at neutralizing emissions in the tourism sector.
