Day 0 : Briefing In Cusco
Your guide is standing by to give the lowdown on the trek, and we want to hear your burning questions! The main event is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. sharp, and it’s a 45-minute gig.
Trust us, you should arrive in Cusca at least a day or two beforehand to give your body time to acclimate to the high altitude and soak in the pre-trek briefing. Travel insurance isn’t just a good idea – it’s a non-negotiable requirement for all participants.
Day 1 : Start In Cusco, Crashing Down To Soraypampa In Style
We send your trusty guide and driver to pick you up bright and early after breakfast, so just chill and enjoy the ride. The first stop on this epic adventure will be the Quillarumiyoc archaeological site – it’s where the magic begins, and you’ll get a glimpse into the rich history of the area.
After that, you’ll head to the picturesque town of Mollepata for a delicious lunch at El Pedregals Farmhouse, where you can get a taste of the local vibe and learn about farming and animal husbandry practices. The real adventure starts after lunch, when you’ll make your way to Challacancha, marking the beginning of the Royal Path hike to Salkantay Lodge in Soraypampa, with breathtaking mountain views that will leave you speechless.
Day 2 : Excursion To Lake Humantay
After you finish breakfast, the hiking experience begins when you head out from the lodge slopes to reach Lake Humantay. The main features of Lake Humantay consist of its turquoise water and its view of the glacier. You can find rest at this location because it provides a peaceful environment for meditation during the Pachamama (Mother Earth) ceremony.
The lodge will prepare your lunch, and you can choose between relaxing with a massage or enjoying the hot tub while watching the sunset behind Mount Salkantay.

Day 3 : Enjoying The Salkantay Pass
The day presents the toughest challenges while bringing the most satisfaction to the journey. You need to begin your trek before sunrise because the Salkantay Pass stands as the highest point along this route at 15,213 feet (4,636 meters). The path takes you past Humantay Peak while you walk through expansive plateaus, which display beautiful mountain landscapes.
The path leads forward as travelers must descend through foggy valleys, which open up to fields containing large rocks after passing through the mountain pass. The path requires a lunch stop before reaching Wayra Lodge, which offers visitors peaceful mountain views.

Day 4 : Descending Into The Cloud Forest
The Salkantay River direction leads you to descend into the warm, green environment, which becomes more prominent after breakfast. The cloud forest trail enables hikers to find orchids and butterflies while they explore through villages that maintain their traditional Andean architecture.
The Colpa Lodge exists on a mountain peak that stands at the junction of three rivers. The Pachamanca lunch serves as your initial meal of the day, through which you will experience the traditional Peruvian cooking method of stone-based earth heating. Spend your afternoon time by relaxing and sunbathing while you enjoy the outdoor hot tub with spectacular views of the valley.

Day 5 : Hiking To The Santa Teresa River Valley
You’ll be led by the scenic Santa Teresa river, its gentle waters weaving a path through lush fruit orchards, stunning waterfalls, and tranquil streams as you hike along it today. The river offers a perfect spot to take a load off your feet before you head to the Llactapата Inca Trail base, which still requires a pretty short drive to get to the Lucma Lodge.
At the lodge, you can refuel with lunch, and then visit an organic coffee farm to see how one of the world’s top coffees is crafted. As you delve deeper, you’ll start noticing the telltale signs that you’re approaching the Amazon rainforest border, marked by a rise in temperatures and humidity.

Day 6 : Catching Glimpses Of The Iconic Machu Picchu
Kick-start your morning with a hearty breakfast, then hike up a lush, misty cloud forest trail that’s steeped in ancient Inca history. The winding trail snakes through a verdant, densely packed forest, where the soothing sound of rushing water fills the air for nearly two to three hours.
For a stunning view of Machu Picchu, head to the Llactapata high point at 8,974 feet / 2,736 metres, an experience most tourists can only dream of. Visitors to Llactapata’s ancient Inca ruins can sit down to a memorable picnic while catching sight of the landscape’s panoramic views.
