Welcome to Lima, Peru’s vibrant capital located at 154 meters above sea level. Upon arrival at Jorge Chavez International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel for check-in. In the afternoon, a short expedition briefing introduces the journey ahead, including an overview of the 4×4 vehicles, driving logistics, and essential safety guidelines for the adventure. This session ensures everyone feels confident and prepared for the road trip across Peru’s diverse terrain. An early morning departure by 4×4 takes you south along the Pan-American Highway toward Paracas. Upon arrival, embark on a boat excursion to the Ballestas Islands, home to Humboldt penguins, sea lions, and diverse marine birdlife. Continue to the Paracas National Reserve, where desert cliffs dramatically meet the Pacific Ocean, creating stunning coastal scenery. The journey proceeds to Ica, where you may stop at the Oasis of Huacachina, a picturesque lagoon surrounded by towering sand dunes. As the sun sets over the desert, continue driving to Nazca. The day combines wildlife observation, sweeping ocean views, and surreal desert landscapes before arriving at your hotel for the night at 588 meters above sea level.

After breakfast, begin the ascent from Nazca into the Andean highlands, transitioning from coastal desert to rugged mountain scenery. Along the route, visit Pampas Galeras, one of South America’s most important vicuña reserves, where these elegant wild camelids roam freely across the plains. If available, explore the local museum dedicated to their conservation. Continue driving through Puquio and admire the breathtaking Yaurihuiri Lagoon at approximately 4,400 meters above sea level, surrounded by dramatic peaks and crisp mountain air. The day’s journey highlights Peru’s ecological diversity and the stark beauty of the Andes. Arrive in Chalhuanca (2,888 meters) for dinner and a restful evening in preparation for the following day’s cultural discoveries.

Travel from Chalhuanca toward Cusco, passing through scenic Andean valleys and historic landmarks. En route, visit the Inca archaeological site of Tarawasi, known for its finely carved stonework and ceremonial significance. Continue to Saywite, famous for its remarkable monolith carved with intricate representations of animals, terraces, and landscapes reflecting the Inca worldview. These sites offer insight into the engineering skill and spiritual depth of the Inca civilization. As the road winds through mountain passes and fertile valleys, descend into the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Arrive in Urubamba (2,800 meters), surrounded by towering peaks and agricultural terraces that have sustained communities for centuries. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.

Continue to Moray, an enigmatic site featuring circular terraced depressions believed to have been an Inca agricultural laboratory. After breakfast, transfer to Ollantaytambo station to board a panoramic train bound for Aguas Calientes. The scenic ride follows the Urubamba River through lush cloud forest landscapes. Upon arrival, take a bus up the winding road to the legendary citadel of Machu Picchu. Enjoy a guided exploration of the ancient Inca sanctuary, discovering its temples, terraces, and ceremonial plazas while learning about its history and architectural brilliance. Surrounded by mist-covered peaks, the atmosphere is truly unforgettable. After the visit, return to Aguas Calientes and later travel back by train to Ollantaytambo. From there, continue by road to Cusco (3,395 meters) for overnight accommodations.
